maid of honor speech
maid of honor speech and toast
Nowadays, it's common to see the maid of honor stand up and deliver a wedding speech and toast to the happy couple. Traditionally, this did not occur; for it was only the best man who delivered the toast for the entire wedding party.
However, as years have past many couples choose to go less traditional routes. For example, my two brothers and I stood up in my sisters wedding as the 'men of honor'. This may be an extreme example, nonetheless, a display of how individuals are making their own rules.

free sample best man speech
free sample best man speech
Good evening.
Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Ryan Ringold and I’m Robert’s best man. I’m honored and privileged to be a part of this very special event.
If there is anybody else here this evening that feels slightly nervous and apprehensive, it’s probably because you just got married to Robert Pelon.
(Laughter)
Let me start off by congratulating the happy couple. And I think you’ll all agree with me that Johanna looks absolutely gorgeous.
Some of you may be wondering the road these two have traveled to be at this point.
Robert and Johanna met while working at Outback Steakhouse in 1995. They started as the best of friends and spent every day together for 6 months before they became a couple.
They told me that they were just interested in being good friends. But I knew better. So, I badgered Robert for months to kiss her. And I’ll never forget that fateful day when he came to me and confessed that he had finally made his big move.
It was the most humiliated I had ever seen Robert. He explained how he waited for her to turn towards him and then he went for a kiss. And just as he did, Johanna threw up her hands and said, “dude what are you doing!”
(Laughter)
I guess it’s safe to say that the second kiss went better.
So what started out as friendship has developed over 8 years into a beautiful marriage of two remarkable people.
When Robert told me that he was getting married and asked me to be his best man, I was both excited and nervous. Excited because my best friend was getting married and I’d take part in the big day. Nervous-- because I’d have to give this speech.
So with help from a web site called, UltimateSpeeches.com, I learned that traditionally the best man speech is a time for roasting the groom and embarrassing him with stories about his past.
(Slight pause)
So, starting from the beginning, I decided to see if there were any big world events or any birthdays of famous people that coincide with the day our handsome groom was born.
Robert was born on December 30, 1972. Now, December 30th is not a very interesting day. However, to my discovery loads of famous people were born on the 29th, such as Jude Law, Ted Danson, Mary Tyler Moore, and Charles Goodyear—the founder of Goodyear tires.
So the 29th is obviously a very busy day and God takes a bit of a rest on the 30th, which explains a lot about Robert here.
(Laughter)
(Pause)
Seriously though, Robert has many great qualities and today is not a day for embarrassing him, but a day to share with all of you what Robert means to me in my life.
Robert was my first friend when my family moved into the Pelon’s neighborhood 24 years ago. It wasn’t long before he was my best friend.
He quickly won the hearts of my entire family—always lighting up our faces when he was around—the same way he lights up the faces of everyone around him still today.
I’ve watched him grow from a skinny little kid when everyone called him Bobby, into the handsome groom that many of us now know as Robert.
As I speak of Robert, I feel like I’m not only speaking for myself, but the entire Ringold family because of his close relationship with each of us. As a little boy Bobby enrolled all of us into his life’s journey—the Ringold family laughed with him, cheered for him, and shared his pains with him. And the same holds true even today.
His determination to live his life by his rules, his passion, and his incredible ability to make his friends, as well as total strangers laugh so hard that they cry…. are only a few reasons why we all love him so much.
And what can I say about his new bride?
Robert, you are very fortunate to have found a woman like Johanna-- a beautiful new bride who is a loyal woman with good morals, good values, and a warm, loving heart.
(Pause)
Robert, you are my best friend. I’ve known you for most of my life. We’ve shared good times and bad…laughed together and cried together…shared life’s triumphs as well as defeats.
I’m proud of you; I admire you, and appreciate you for being you.
Robert, you and Johanna look so beautiful together. The two of you inspire not only me, but both of your families and you touch the lives of all those that land in your path.
We’ll all be looking on in anticipation to the day that the two of you have children of your own.
I know that you’ll make a loving husband and a caring father. Your children will look to you for nurturing, guidance, and leadership. I know in my heart that you won’t disappoint them and that one-day your children will look up to you with the same admiration and love that I’ve always had for you.
Robert and Johanna, I love you both. Not only for who you are, but for what you bring out in each other.
Ladies and gentlemen please raise your glasses and join me in the following toast.
(Give a moment for guests to raise glasses)
To my best friend, Robert, and his new bride, Johanna-- may your Love be modern enough to survive the times and old fashioned enough to last forever.
May god bless you both and keep your hearts as one.
Cheers!
