best man speech
best man speech
One of the biggest jobs of the best man is to give the best man wedding toast. However, it's more a speech than toast. A speech is a 1-5 minute talk that the best man shares with the wedding guests and then ends with a 1 to 4 line toast. A toast is a blessing or good wish.
Tip #1: Remember who is in your wedding audience. Speak to the ears of the wedding guests. Don't forget that there will be parents, grandparents, and children. Keep it clean... or at least PG.

The Etiquette Of Wedding Toasts
Who Toasts To Whom?
Many weddings are moving away from traditional toasting practices. Today, it is not uncommon to see a toast from the best man, maid of honor, and parents of the bride and/or groom. Traditionally, the best man speech was on behalf of the wedding party, including the maid of honor. Now, most receptions invite the maid of honor to say a few words as well.
It is also common for the bride and groom to toast their parents and the guests.
Additional wedding toasts and speeches may depend on other factors such as who is actually hosting the wedding. As an example, the bride's step-father may want to say a few words if he's paying for the wedding. Even if the groom's side is not financially supporting the couple, they should be offered the opportunity to offer their blessings.
What about the rehearsal dinner?
The rehearsal dinner is a great place for anyone attending to offer their well-wishes. If you are the best man or maid of honor, you may want to give a short toast at this time. Groomsmen, bridesmaid, family and friends are also invited to say a few words if they are feeling compelled to do so.

writing a wedding speech
The first step to writing a good speech for a wedding reception is to know your subject. You already have this down because you are probably very close with either the bride or groom. Near the beginning of your best man or maid of honor speech you'll want to share one of your favorite memories of the time spent together. This memory can be sentimental or funny, but nothing too embarrassing. Remember only share information appropriate for all ages. It's important to know your audience. The wedding reception will have kids, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, friends and family of all ages. The next step of your speech is to reflect on the history of the happy couple. Recount a short story of how they met and how the relationship has affected the both of them positively. Share positive characteristics of the bride and groom.
And relax... you'll be great!

Sample Wedding Vow
Looking for those special words that will marry you? Here is an assortment of traditional and non-traditional, religious and secular vows to get you started. If you are getting married in a religious setting, check with your officiant as she/he may have specific words that you cannot deviate from. Otherwise, feel free to add your own embellishments, loving words, funny promises (I promise to take the trash out!) and inside jokes.
I, (Bride/Groom), take you (Groom/Bride), to be my (wife/husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part. I, (name), take you, (name), to be my [opt: lawfully wedded] (husband/wife), mconstant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward.
In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.I (name), take you (name) to be my (husband/wife), my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together.
I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.In the presence of God and these our friends I take thee to be my husband/wife, promising with Divine assistance to be unto thee a loving and faithful husband/wife so long as we both shall live.
I, (name), take you, (name), to be my friend, my lover, the (mother/father) of my children and my (husband/wife). I will be yours in times of plenty and in times of want, in times of sickness and in times of health, in times of joy and in times of sorrow, in times of failure and in times of triumph. I promise to cherish and respect you, to care and protect you, to comfort and encourage you, and stay with you, for all eternity.I, [name], choose you [name] to be my [husband/wife], to respect you in your successes and in your failures, to care for you in sickness and in health, to nurture you, and to grow with you throughout the seasons of life.
I, (name), take you, (name), to be my partner, loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I eagerly anticipate the chance to grow together, getting to know the (man/woman) you will become, and falling in love a little more every day.
I promise to love and cherish you through whatever life may bring us.After both have said individual vows, they may wish to say something in unison such as:Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you, For where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. And where you die, I will die and there I will be buried. May the Lord do with me and more if anything but death parts you from me.

Best Man Toast
"My speech was a huge hit.""All the feedback was extremely positive, I felt that I was right on with the delivery. I had checked out a couple (free) different websites before yours, and was unable to come up with any real useful material, paying the [cost] was a great investment and my final speech was a huge hit. Not really sure what more you could provide. Great web site!"--Brendan O'Donohue, Gilbert, AZ
"It's better to be prepared!""It's worth the price. It's better to spend a little and be prepared, than to spend nothing and possibly flub the most important day in someone's life."--Thomas Dicks, New York
"Everyone thought it was the best speech!""Rating a 10. They were excellent, there were so many different speeches that any speech would work for all types of individuals. My friend actually hasn't used his speech yet, the wedding isn't until September, but he was very pleased with the result of your speeches. We heard about this web site from a mutual friend. When he gave his speech at a different wedding he had everyone laughing, and then some crying. Everyone thought it was the best speech and fortunately for us, he admitted that it wasn't his own. There was so much information given to me that all of the basis were covered. I specifically like the quotes that you gave me."--Rebecca Copeland, Washington, MO
I created the speech of a lifetime!"Thanks for the follow up on this. I would like to THANK YOU for this GREAT Service. After downloading you material I was able to create a Speech of a lifetime!!! I probably had 15 people come up to me afterwards and say that it was the best, Best Man speech they had ever heard! Tremendous success."--Chris Williams, VA
"Overwhelming response!""I blended (cut and pasted) the speeches and had an overwhelmingly positive response about the speech."--Chris Akinuoye, Calgary, CA
